TONYA AND JEFFREY CHAPPELL STORY

TONYA AND JEFFREY CHAPPELL STORY

"We didn't have to change our procedures for COVID," explains Tonya. "We've always put that kind of attention into high-touchpoint areas. We take pride in going above and beyond expectations."

The family-, minority-, and woman-owned and operated cleaning company has been making it safer for people to be together since 2015. Chappell's offers janitorial services, deep cleaning, high-tech electrostatic treatments, and day porter services to commercial clients in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.

Chappell's provides quality and consistency that's prized by some of the most beautiful spaces in town, including Bond Collective, Burberry, and Aritzia Georgetown. From offices to retail, Chappell's offers protection for everybody who enters, and that's good for business owners-especially for businesses with specific needs, like wellness centers that require eco-friendly solutions and showrooms where people touch hundreds of surfaces daily.

"We want our clients to keep their employees healthy and productive and keep their customers coming back," says Jeffrey. Chappell's level of precision and discipline is even valued by the U.S. Army, a client they have been serving at various facilities for the last three years.

What does it take to earn that kind of trust? "A company like ours succeeds on people and procedures," Tonya says. "Jeffrey and I both learned the importance of cleanliness from our parents, and built the company on traditional, timeless principles that will stand the test of time."

The couple only hires team members who share their values and work ethic; they train them in their techniques and procedures and empower them to be excellent. From understanding product use to preserving finishes to mastering extensive checklists, Chappell's training is so complete that each team member earns the title Cleaning Technician.

"We don't just do the actions, we create real results," Tonya says. "We create a real clean that hits all five senses." And when you're fighting an invisible enemy with immense power to impact employees, customers, and your bottom line, you need the high standards of Chappell's Cleaning Services to be sure your cleaning is done right.

In February 2021, Tonya and Jeffrey engaged the DCSBDC Lead Center at Howard University to obtain 8 (a) Certification and the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL). Through the assistance and guidance of her consultant, Chappell's Cleaning Services secured the EIDL loan and got certified as a Participant in the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) 8(a) Business Development (BD) Program.

The counseling of her DCSBDC consultant has encouraged Tonya and Jeffrey to pursue the Certified Business Enterprise (CBE) Certification and HUBZone Certification.

"In one word, Yodit is Amazing! Every time we come to her; she is very helpful. In my opinion, her number one priority is making sure you have the right documentation to achieve your goal. But she also gives you the knowledge to be successful during the application process. That's what makes her hands down a "Unique" consultant, mentor and teacher!" Says Tonya.
